Men's issues on ICRfm 08.06.09

ICRfm will this week begin a new six-part documentary series charting the changing role of men in society in the last 50 years.
‘From Brylcreem to Beckham’ is produced by Cathal Monaghan who engaged with various support agencies and community organisations working with and supporting men in varying roles in the North West.
The six shows will highlight issues including: men and personal care; the changing role of the father; how things have changed for gay people in the last fifty years; male violence; male suicide and recreation.
It highlights how the changes in society and lifestyles have brought different changes although not all useful or healthy.
'From Brylcream to Beckham kicks off on Inishowen Community Radio on Wednesday, June 10 at 9.00am and will be repeated that evening at 7.00pm. The series will run for five weeks thereafter exploring different themes - from the more light-hearted such as men’s fashion and personal appearance to more gritty topics such as the rise in young male suicide. It will feature interviews with local men and women spanning a number of generations. Cathal Monaghan in the ICRfm studio.
The series producer promises "a fascinating insight into Irish life in the last five decades".
"The more skills, knowledge and understanding you can offer someone to deal with life’s difficulties, the greater the chance for significant and life-long change in the person’s life," said Cathal, who thanked ICRfm's Trudy McLaughlin for her help in editing the series.
Cathal Monaghan has worked in the community sector for many years and has trained in conflict resolution and mediation, trauma and anger management. He is a qualified psychotherapist. He became a volunteer at ICR in 2005 and has worked on various projects for the station. Tune in to ICR fm on 105 or 107.6fm or listen on-line at www.icrfm.ie .
