Tedstone elected Buncrana Mayor 16.06.09

POLL topper Lee Tedstone was last night elected as Mayor of Buncrana at the first annual general meeting of the new council. The Fine Gael councillor won 417 first preference votes, a stunning return for a first time candidate.
Cllr Tedstone (30), managing director of Nvolve, a Letterkenny-based software company takes over from outgoing mayor Dermot McLaughlin.
The new mayor has identified increased tourism facilities and improved broadband infrastructure among his priorities.
The Deputy Mayor will be Fine Gael’s Peter McLaughlin.
Buncrana Town Council is expected to continue its long-standing convention of rotating the mayoral position amongst all parties. As the biggest party, Fine Gael will have two mayors over the five year term of the Council, with Fianna Fáil, Sinn Féin and Independents having one mayor each.
Meanwhile, Fianna Fáil county councillors will meet later today to discuss their strategy

ahead of the first meeting of the new county council in Lifford on Friday. The party has approached all other parties and independents to establish whether they want to enter a pact.
Letterkenny councillor Ciaran Brogan is expected to be appointed as Fianna Fáil whip, with veteran councillor Sean McEniff chairman of the group. (Inishowen Independent)
