Youngsters ‘spread a little light’ for iCARE

by Liam Porter, Inishowen Independent

MUSIC LOVERS from across Inishowen will be anxious to get their hands on the new cd from the Muff Youth Choir to be officially launched at a function in the Halfway House in Burnfoot at the end of this month.
The cd titled ‘This little light of mine,’ features twelve tracks and was recorded in Muff chapel giving the album a very authentic feel.
Plans for the cd were unveiled earlier this year when local priest Fr. Farren suggested they record a cd because of their popularity among local parishioners.
The group, which has around thirty members, has been hard at work since then raising money to cover the cost of recording the cd and of course working on the songs for the recording.
Speaking to the Inishowen Independent Margaret Brogan whose daughter Roisin is a driving force behind the choir, said that the young members were all very excited about the recording.
“The young ones were all excited about the idea of recording the cd and they have all worked hard during the recording sessions. They are really looking forward to the launch now and hearing what people have to say about the cd. There is a reall buzz about the whole project,” she said.
The recording was carried out by Derry-based DT Productions who brought their equipment to Muff chapel to capture an authentic sound from the choir in their natural environment.
“There is a really lovely feel to the sound from the cd, it sounds like it’s a live performance because the choir feel so at home in the chapel,” Margaret says.
The final product came after just three takes on a number of Sundays and includes a track titled ‘Spread a little Love’ written by one of the producers, Danny Feeney.
“We’re really pleased with the finished product and were delighted when Alice Connolly offered to take the photograph for the cover for free. Now we’re looking forward to the launch and hoping as many people as possible turn out to support the choir.”
The launch in the Halfway House in Burnfoot on Saturday 30th May will be a fund-raiser with proceeds going towards iCARE and Margaret adds that all the profits from the cds will also go towards that worthy cause.
“The choir will perform at the launch on that Saturday night but we’ve also pencilled in another launch in the local hall in Muff the next day after 11.30 am Mass for anyone who might not be able to make it on the Saturday night.”
The choir cd is priced just €10 and will be available following the launch at the end of the month. But demand is already expected to be high…so make sure you get your order in early.
