One-day workshop for Moville publicans 06.03.09

MOVILLE pub owners and bar staff are being invited to take part in a one-day workshop later this month aimed at protecting young people from alcohol related harm.
The Drug and Alcohol Awareness Workshop will be hosted by the Moville Community Alcohol Project in association with the Department of Health, the Vinters’ Federation of Ireland and the Licensed Vinters’ Association. It will explore the promotion of responsible drinking and examine the law and best practice in relation to the sale of alcohol.
“The publicans are at the coal face of looking out for young people in relation to alcohol and drugs," said Moville Community Alcohol Project co-ordinator David Simpson. "The project wants to help and support them. As each part of the community in Moville becomes more aware of alcohol and what they can do to protect young people, then we maybe have a chance of the next generation of young people not turning to alcohol so easily or so early.” Moville Community Alcohol Project is involved in ongoing work to "protect the Moville Community Alcohol Project co-ordinator, David Simpson.
next generation of young people from alcohol related harm".
“Protecting young people is everybody’s concern. The project has tried to support different parts of the community. A whole range of new activities for young people in the town, including the very successful 'Park Life', a play about being a young person in Moville, have been put on by the Moville Family Resource Centre.
"Families in the town have been able to learn more about what their young ones' think about alcohol by using the project’s Family Conversation - a simple set of questionnaires for families to fill out and use as a starting point for talking about alcohol," added David.
The Drug and Alcohol Awareness Workshop will take place on Monday, March 23, from 10am until 3.30pm, in the Caiseal Mara Hotel, Moville. It is free to all publicans, bar staff and security staff. For more information contact David Simpson on 93 81224 or Mary McKinney 93 85548.
