Inishowen sizzles...

Let's vote for a big
Sun Party

IT'S been Sun Day every day this Bank Holiday
weekend as Inishowen basks in sizzling temperatures
and clear blue skies.
Whether you're a tan fan, beach babe, laundry lover
or sheep shearer, the weather's been a peach in the
peninsula. Temperatures at Malin Head soared to 22.2
degrees on Saturday with sweltering temperatures all
over the region on Sunday and Monday. Thousands of
festival goers who attended the International Sheep
Shearing Championships in Burt could have been
forgiven for thinking they were in the Australian
outback and not Ireland's largest farm. |

It seems Inishowen has
its smile back after a winter of recession,
depression and Budgetary blues. Even battle-weary
election canvassers are having their day in the sun
- although attempts to guarantee the weather, if
elected, are proving difficult to sell. |

Forget sectional
politics...let's elect one big Sun Party - monthly
meetings on the beach, free ice cream days,
municipal sun block dispensers. In fact, while we're
at it, why not elect Met Eireann man Gerald Fleming
Taoiseach and Evelyn Cusack Tanaiste. We'll allow no
gloomy economic forecasts from these two, thank you
very much! |
But
let's get our heads out of the (light, fluffy,
hardly anywhere to be seen) clouds for a moment.
Met Eireann is forecasting a good week of double
digit weather for the coming days in Inishowen.
Meteorological officer John Hannon said people in
the peninsula can expect much of the same dry, sunny
conditions until Wednesday.
"It will be mostly dry and temperatures will range
between the high teens and low 20s. It will be
progressively cooler from Thursday with a slight
risk of showers," he said, adding that people
needn't fear a dramatic deterioration in the weather
even after Thursday. As for the political outlook
after polling day on Friday...we'll just have to
