BALLYLIFFIN'S new-look
playground has become one of the first to display
the ‘Think before you Smoke’ sign. The campaign is
being used to promote a 'Smoke Free Play
Environment' by the Donegal Youth and Tobacco Group.
"It is widely known that if children see their
parents or carers smoking that they are more likely
to experiment with tobacco themselves," said a
Donegal County Council spokesperson.
"It was with this in mind that in June 2007 the
Donegal Youth and Tobacco Group made contact with
Donegal County Council requesting support in
promoting smoke free environments where children
play." |

Donegal County Council
has now agreed to include the signage in all new
playgrounds being developed in the county over the
next three years.
The newly refurbished Ballyliffin playground was
officially opened last week by Mayor Cllr Gerry
Crawford along with Inishowen Electoral Area
Committee chairperson Cllr Bernard McGuinness.
The playground is the result of a partnership
between Donegal County Council and the local
community.
The landowner John Harkin, and Ballyliffin
Development Association were praised for their
assistance and support while the latter was thanked
for undertaking |
the day-to-day
management of the playground. The committee also
thanked Mary Harkin from Clonmany who contributed
her prize money from the Robinson's Green Space
Renewal competition towards the playground. The
refurbishment was carried out by Tom Foley of Nature
Play while the project was managed by the staff of
Donegal County Council's Community and Enterprise
Division. Donegal County Council will provide
insurance for the facility and will inspect it
weekly while ongoing maintenance will be carried out
in association with the local community group. |
