A NEW exhibition
created by teenagers in Moville is to go on display
from next weekend in the Inishowen Maritime Museum.
The show, called 'Windows' features photographs and
video showcases from young people in the town aged
between 14 and 18 years.
The exhibition came about as a result of an arts
project developed by the Moville and District Family
Resource Centre in conjunction with young people in
the Moville area.
"The project grew from ideas and discussions among
young people about ways to represent their
environment and locality, and to also reflect the
experiences of older people in the area," said
spokesperson Mhairi Sutherland.
"'Windows' showcases the results of this
intergenerational approach, reflecting historical
and contemporary aspects of Moville and the
surrounding area through a series of photographs and
a video work."
The project was funded through the Leargas Youth in
Action Programme.
Photographs featured in the exhibition were taken by
a group of young people over a number of weeks.
Digital photography, Photoshop and video skills were
learned along the way. The project also compares and
contrasts elements of the townlands and town of
Moville through video. For this part of the
exhibition, young people and older adults responded
individually to a series of the same questions such
as ‘What are your earliest memories?' and 'What was
school like?' The 'Windows' exhibition will be
opened by Moville Historical Society chairperson
Brendan Keaveney on Saturday, June 6 2009 and runs
until Saturday, June 13. |
