THE skies near Muff
will play host this Sunday to a fantastic air
display as part of the Amelia Earhart Festival in
Ballyarnett Country Park.
The festival in memory of the 'first lady of
aviation' is celebrating its second birthday with
two days of fun-filled family events including an
International 'It's a Knock-Out' challenge and the
'Biggest Teddy Bear's Picnic in Ireland'.
There will be live music from late Saturday
afternoon with a headline performance from Hope, the
band that wowed TV audiences last year on the X
Factor.
Sunday begins with the Earhart Challenge Cup 5k Fun
Run, a kid's fest programme of games and another top
class music bill headlined by the internationally
acclaimed Fureys.
Derry Mayor Cllr Gerard Diver said Derry City
Council was delighted to support the community
initiative.
"Amelia Earhart put the city on the map many years
ago when she landed here and this festival is a
wonderful way to highlight this historic event and
encourage the whole community to have a little fun
at the same time. I would like to commend the
festival committee for all their hard work and
creativity and wish everyone a wonderful weekend,"
he said.
Throughout Saturday and Sunday there will be many
opportunities to visit the Amelia Earhart exhibition
and, in a special event at 3.15pm on Sunday, the
Letterkenny Flying Club will pay their very own
tribute with a dazzling low-level pass and wave in
Earhart's honour.
Tickets for each day cost £3 each and family tickets
for the entire weekend for up to four people are
available for £10. Tickets can be purchased at a
variety of outlets throughout the city. For further
