THE manager of City of
Derry Airport has been removed from his position
following an internal investigation into safety
concerns that forced the closure of the airport last
year.
Seamus Devine was temporarily suspended last year
after an internal investigation was ordered by Derry
City Council into the airport's four-day closure
last May. |

A spokesperson for
Derry City Council today explained: "Following the
conclusion of the investigation, the officer holding
the post of Airport Manager was removed from that
post. The Council will initiate a process to appoint
a new Airport Manager.
"In the meantime, the existing |
interim airport
management arrangements remain in place. The former
Airport Manager is a qualified air traffic
controller. He will remain engaged by the Council in
that role."
Derry City Airport was ordered to close last May
after the Civil Aviation Authority cited major
safety concerns, including a lack of an effective
bird control plan and poor runway drainage. |
