Greencastle mum scoops
€50K

"Life-changing" win for
Bernie
CHRISTMAS has come early for one Inishowen mum who
scooped a fantastic €50,750 on RTE's Winning Streak
on Saturday night.
Bernie Kearney, a lone parent from Greencastle,
deposited the biggest cheque of her life in a
Moville bank yesterday and said her win had still
not sunk in.
"This is life-changing for me. When you're a lone
parent and the bills are mounting up, you worry
about paying them," said the 39-year old
mother-of-one. |
"Next week, I'll be
able to sit down for the first time and say to
myself 'now which bill will I pay first'," she
laughed.
The money is even more welcome given that Bernie,
whose 20-year old son works and lives in
Letterkenny, currently has only part-time work - as
a housekeeper in Moville's Caiseal Mara Hotel.
"When you don't have full time work and when the
economy is in a downturn, I know I was very lucky.
But I honestly don't think it has sunk in yet."
With her bills cleared, she said the |

healthy lump sum will
leave her comfortable for the foreseeable future.
"It's great to think I'll be able to look after my
son and we can have a comfortable lifestyle. I'll be
40 next year so I might do something special for
that too." Bernie was accompanied by family members
to the TV gameshow in Dublin. They cheered her on as
she was chosen to Spin-the-Wheel. When they returned
to Greencastle on Sunday, her brother Daniel held a
party for her to celebrate. Bernie said waking up on
a cold winter Monday, €50K the richer, was "an
amazing feeling". |
