'Bird of Pray' discovered in Muff 21.05.08

Nobody cries ‘fowl’ as bird builds on statue

WE'VE all heard of a bird of prey, but the Prayer Garden at the Iosas Centre in Muff now seems to have its very own “bird of pray,” after a feathered friend decided to build its nest on top of a statue of Our Lady.
Visitors to the Prayer Garden at the Iosas Centre have been stopping a little longer than normal near one of the statues in recent weeks after it emerged that a blackbird had taken up residence in a nest on top of the statue.
The statue is a fairly recent addition to the park in a new display of the Incarnation of the Baby Jesus, but it has been grabbing lots of attention in recent weeks with visitors amazed at the sight of the nest on top of the statue.
Iosas worker Maureen Doherty said the nest was becoming an attraction of its own, but said that

visitors had been careful not to get too close to disturb the bird.
“It’s a perfect wee nest and it’s just amazing to see where it has been built. It really is a sight to see,” she said.
While the centre has an aviary of its own, this is the first time that a wild bird has built a nest on any of the displays at the Prayer Garden.
However, despite the unusual location it seems as if nobody is going to cry ‘fowl’ over this building site while rumours remain unconfirmed that the bird has been heard whistling the tune of the hymn ‘Faith of our Feathers…’ (Story: Inishowen Independent)
