Kevin and Marie enjoy their EU
tour
12.09.08
TWO young Inishowen
journalists have just returned from a three-day
visit to Brussels after winning a top prize for
their coverage of European affairs. |
|
Kevin Kelly from Dunaff,
Clonmany and Marie McDonald joined fellow winners in
the European Young Journalism Competition from
Clare, Mayo, Galway and Westmeath on the trip.
Kevin won his award for a series he wrote in his
Inishowen Independent column in the run up to the
Lisbon Treaty referendum. |
Marie scooped her award
for an Inishowen Community Radio programme on the
disparity between grocery prices in Inishowen and
Derry.
The competition was organised by the European
People’s Party – of which MEP Jim Higgins' Fine Gael
party is a member. A Brussels-based panel judged the
entries.
During their visit, Kevin and Marie enjoyed
discussions with MEPs, EU Parliament and Commission
officials as well as media correspondents based in
Brussels covering European issues. The two also had
an opportunity to explore Brussels and Bruges. |
