Busy spell for Lough Swilly Lifeboats 10.06.08

The crew of Lough Swilly Lifeboat at the request of Malin Head Coastguard launched four times to go to the assistance of 18 people over the recent hot spell of weather.
On Sunday of the bank holiday weekend both the station’s boats launched to assist in a search for four missing divers off Malin Head.

Lough Swilly RNLI's new B-Class Atlantic 85 boat in action. Meanwhile, on Monday of the bank holiday, the Atlantic was launched to assist two children who got into difficulty while swimming at Portsalon beach.
Last Thursday, the Tyne Class All Weather Boat towed a 75ft, 160 tonne crabbing vessel with five people on board in from 22 miles NNW of Fanad Head. The boat had suffered engine failure and was towed back in to Downings Pier.
The Atlantic 85 assisted a 35ft cruising vessel with seven people on board that had lost throttle power off Linsfort last Saturday. The vessel made temporary repairs to the throttle cable and was escorted back to Fahan Marina by the lifeboat.
Coxswain Mark Barnett explained: “The good weather has resulted in more coastal activity, which contributed to increased calls for the lifeboat crews. The call to the fishing vessel on Thursday was a particularly long service that lasted over 14 hours. Thankfully all incidents ended safely”
