Chamber option
08.09.08
CARNDONAGH business
people will hold a meeting tomorrow night aimed at
setting up a chamber of commerce in the town.
A small working group met recently to discuss the
feasibility of establishing the Carndonagh Chamber
of Commerce. They have followed that up with an
invitation to all businesses in the town and
surrounding areas to meet tomorrow night at
Simpson's with a view to the formal setting up of
the business lobby group. |

"While the route to
Chamber status can take up to two years, it was
agreed that an immediate start should be made in
advancing the positive aspects of the town in terms
of investment and as a hub for Inishowen," said a
spokesperson.
"Carndonagh has many attributes and we felt that it
was time that |
it was time that local businesses promoted the town
as an ideal place to work and live in."
Topics on the agenda tomorrow night will include
networking; information seminars; a relevant audit
of the strengths of the town; involvement in
discussions on the Donegal Development Plan; liaison
with the county council; tourism potential;
promotion of IT and knowledge-based services. The
future chamber would also hope to promote enterprise
at school level through an enterprise award.
The group is determined that the chamber will not
become “a talking shop” and just another committee
in the town. "Everyone will be required to provide
an input and it is proposed to have a number of
small teams working within the overall structure on
their own areas of expertise," added the
spokesperson.
A website,
www.carndonaghchamber.com , has also been set up
and interested parties can register on the site. All
Carn businesses listed in the telephone directory
have been invited to the meeting on Tuesday,
September 9, at 8pm but anyone who inadvertently did
not receive an invitation is asked to come along on
the night. The meeting is expected to run no later
than 9.30pm so punctual attendance will be
appreciated. |
