A CARNDONAGH community
group is to get funding of €138,588 to help it
tackle disadvantage.
The Colgan Community and Resource Centre will
receive the money under the Department of Rural
Affairs' Community Services Programme.
Senator Cecilia Keaveney welcomed the cash boost for
the local centre.
“This programme aims to support local community
activity which addresses disadvantage, while at the
same time providing employment opportunities for
people from a number of target groups," she said.
"These target groups include people with
disabilities; the long-term unemployed, Travellers
and one parent families. The activities of the
projects funded under the programme are very varied
and include community childcare services, services
for the elderly; managing community halls and
facilities, rural tourism, recycling and
environmental projects."
She praised everyone involved in working within the
community and specifically those who undertook "the
important work of acquiring the necessary
information to allow the grant to be drawn down".
"The funding is in support of staffing of community
facilities and I have no doubt that it will be
greatly welcomed by the group,” she added. |
