COLPOSCOPY services at
Letterkenny General Hospital are to be retained,
it's been confirmed. Co-operating for Cancer Care
NorthWest CCC(NW) said it was a "good day for
Donegal women and Letterkenny Hospital". “This
positive outcome is the result of both the National
Cancer Screening Service (NCSS) and the hospital,
engaging with one another as a matter of urgency to
ensure that the colposcopy services in the hospital
made the required enhancements so as to meet the
quality assurance standards defined by the NCSS."
CervicalCheck, the National Cervical Screening
Programme, is now in a position to make referrals to
the Colposcopy Clinic in Letterkenny.
“Credit must be given to the hospital team and in
particular, Seán Murphy, general manager for the
speed in which they responded to the NCSS regarding
enhancing their colposcopy services and securing the
unit as the twelfth national centre to receive
referrals from CervicalCheck," added Ms Duddy. She
said it was now up to local women to use the
service.
“It is up to women to make use of this service.
CCC(NW) urge and encourage women eligible to attend
for a cervical smear, to register for the screening
and avail of it now.” |
