Moville College students take
'Notes'
28.05.08
STUDENTS from Moville
Community College were among the participants in a
new pilot arts project aimed at promoting good
mental health.
The local pupils took part in the 'Notes' project
facilitated by the Artists in Creative Enterprise
(ACE) in association with the Health Service
Executive (HSE).
A total of 72 students aged from 14 to 17 years and
from schools including Deele College, Raphoe, and
Glenties Comprehensive School took part in the
unique project. |
It provided new
opportunities for young people to participate in the
written and verbal arts and to promote positive
mental health for themselves and others. The project
was designed and facilitated by Patrick Kearney of
ACE, the community organisation that |
|
uses the arts to
promote good health.
Mr. Kearney explained: "The young writers wrote
hundreds of pieces of prose and poetry and
contributed many of the pieces for readings and
publication. "We are dedicating a writers’ page on
our website where the young writers can publish
their prose and poetry. The evolving online book,
'Notes', will serve to promote the young people as
writers, to provide them with a public voice, and
for the public to join with ourselves and other
supporters to acknowledge and congratulate the
writers for picking up their pens and sharing their
thoughts, experiences and imaginings with us all."
The 'Notes' project also ran successfully in three
colleges in Derry, funded by the Western Health and
Social Services Board. You can read more from
