GROUPS in Inishowen
working to promote peace and reconciliation are
being invited to apply for grants under a new €4.7m
package from the Donegal Peace and Reconciliation
Partnership.
The fund is managed by Donegal County Council on
behalf of the County Development Board's Peace and
Reconciliation Partnership. This is a body aimed at
ensuring all target areas and groups requiring
support have an opportunity to make funding
applications.
The first aspect of the programme kicked off
yesterday with a €660,000 scheme of small grants for
cross-community peace and reconciliation work
including that which addresses sectarianism and
racism.
Peace and Reconciliation Partnership chairperson
Cllr Francis Conaghan welcomed the progression of
the plan to funding stage. "There is an emphasis on
local activity as part of the small grant scheme and
we welcome particularly actions that can show a
demonstrable effect within the areas most effected
by the conflict," he said.
Cllr Conaghan said it was important for all
potential applicants to note that these funds were
specifically aimed at activities to support peace
and reconciliation. It also offered opportunities to
groups with previously-established core competencies
and skills in this area.
To assist potential applicants with queries and the
grant application process the partnership is running
a number of advice workshops around the county
including Inishowen. A workshop will be held in the
Carndonagh Public Service Centre on Thursday,
October 30, 2008 at 2pm. The closing date for the
