Fahan school kids' classical adventure 22.05.08

AN Inishowen school was recently treated to a "fantastic" afternoon of classical music with a young Australian string quartet.
Scoil Naomh Mura in Tooban, Fahan, enjoyed the special workshop when the Binneas String Quartet visited the area to take part in the first of three concerts organised by a new Inishowen community music group.
The Binneas String Quartet performed with renowned sean nós singer, Eilín Ní Bheaglaoich.
Senator Cecilia Keaveney pictured with the musicians who performed at the Da Capo concert in the Fowler Hall recently. Scoil Naomh Mura principal Mary O'Regan said everyone enjoyed the day with the musicians from Down Under.
"There was an abundance of music and atmosphere with our pupils singing and dancing to their heart's content," she said.
Later that evening, Senator Cecilia Keaveney, herself a musician and former music teacher, was among the audience that enjoyed a recital of chamber music with pieces by Haydn, Shostakovich, Barber and
Piazzolla.
The quartet also premiered a collection of songs from Eilín Ní Bheaglaoich arranged for string quartet and voice by John Lynch.
Further Inishowen concerts featuring internationally renowned musicians are planned under the Da Capo Concert Series for September in Carndonagh and for November in Buncrana.
