SHEEP farmers in
Inishowen who qualify for payment under a special
scheme will soon get cheques of up to €1,000 each.
To qualify, farmers must derive at least 40% of
their income entirely from sheep.
The special payment has been introduced by the
Department of Agriculture and is worth a total of
more than €6m to Irish farmers annually.
“Successful applicants will receive an allocation up
to a maximum of €1,000," said Donegal Senator
Cecilia Keaveney, welcoming the allocations.
Notices of payment for successful applicants will
continue over the coming weeks and payment will
follow shortly afterwards. “I spoke to Minister Mary
Coughlan a number of times in relation to the plight
of sheep farmers. She made a commitment to introduce
a special measure. This announcement is directed at
sheep farmers who derived at least 40% of their
existing Single Payment from direct payments
associated with sheep production (ewe premium/rural
world premium) during the reference period," said
Senator Keaveney.
Applicants who are dissatisfied with the
department's decision on their application may
appeal that decision to the Single Payment
Independent Appeals Committee. |
