Unique fathers and sons project in
Moville
22.04.08
AN innovative fathers
and sons project will take place in Moville over the
next five weeks.
The project will explore how fathers can best help
prepare their sons for the pressures of adolescence.
It is being organised by Moville Family Resource
Centre, in conjunction with Promoting Fatherhood and
the Inishowen Fathers' Group. |
David Simpson, project
co-ordinator said: “Many of us know about early
school leaving, road accidents and suicides amongst
young men and wonder what can be done to help our
young men. Mental and emotional health and
associated problems were not talked about in our
youth nor were they part of what fathers needed to
know about twenty years ago. Unfortunately they are
now part of our children’s daily lives: stress about
exams, about relationships, about sexuality,

about family break
down.”
The project will work with a group of fathers from
Inishowen to look at helping boys and young men to
manage their mental and emotional health. The
fathers will explore how they can best teach their
sons the skills, knowledge and awareness to stay
mentally and emotionally healthy.
The project is looking for men who are parenting
boys, fathers, stepfathers, foster fathers and
grandfathers. It is funded by the ESB ElectricAID
Ireland as part of their work to reduce and prevent
suicide in Ireland.
The first evening of the project is on Tuesday,
April 29 in Moville Day Centre (below the Health
Centre) from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. For more information
about the project call David Simpson on 074 93
