Fuel poverty rises in
Donegal
21.10.08
FUEL poverty will
affect a growing number of families in Donegal this
winter, according to a local councillor.
Cllr Francis Conaghan made his comments at a fuel
poverty seminar organised by Social Inclusion Group
at Donegal County Council.
"Owing to a number of factors including the recent
downturn in the economy, increased fuel and energy
prices and poor energy efficiency in the home, fuel
poverty will have an impact on an increased
proportion of the county's population this year,"
said Cllr Conaghan, who is chairperson of the County
Development Board. |
Donegal County
Council's director of community, culture and
enterprise Michael O’hEanaigh said the seminar aimed
to assess the level of fuel poverty in the county.
He said the Council wanted to explore the impact on
the most vulnerable in society and to "identify
collaborative ways" to address the issue both

and nationally. Among
those who attended the seminar were Charles Roarty,
ceo of Energy Action; Colette Brolly, Western Health
Action Zone, Margaret Glackin of Action Inishowen
and Aine Ni Lamhin from MFG. For more information,
