TWO of Greencastle
Football Club’s most promising young players have
been called up to the Irish U17 team for a pair of
games against the United States of America this
week. Niamh McLaughlin and Ciara Hegarty will travel
to Dublin this week for matches against the
formidable Americans on Wednesday and Friday. |

Niamh McLaughlin has
already booked her place on the Irish U17 squad that
will travel to Poland for a four team tournament
which starts next Tuesday, the 19th of August and
Ciara will be hoping to catch the eye of the Irish
team coach at this weeks games against the United
States and get to travel to the tournament also.
Hegarty recently represented Ireland U17s in a 7-1
friendly win over Northern Ireland in Mayo. Noel
King’s Irish ladies will play against hosts Poland,
Italy and Russia at next |
week’s tournament.
Greencastle will hope the pair will be available for
the Chapel Lane side’s cup final, which is likely to
be played the weekend after the Poland event. Niamh
McLaughlin warmed up for her international by
scoring the insurance strike and as her club
defeated Cockhill Celtic 5-3 at home last week. |
