Our hidden gems too well hidden - councillor 25.06.08

AN INISHOWEN councillor has called for better signposting around the peninsula particularly to help baffled tourists who can't find their destinations.
Cllr. Marian McDonald has called on Donegal County Council to erect better signposts and for them to be maintained particularly over the summer months.
"We are depending on tourism and yet a day never passes without a tourist stopping to ask directions to certain places of interest which should be signposted and are not. Then you have the signposts that are turned in a different direction," said Cllr. McDonald.
Donegal County Council has told the Moville-based councillor that it is currently finalising the installation of new signposting on all regional roads in the county.
It is anticipated that the signage will be completed by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, the authorities have said that the National Roads Authority is currently upgrading signposting on national routes.
Cllr. McDonald said she was disappointed to hear from the local authority that the overall funding for the upgrade of signposting was "quite stretched" and that staff would have to "work within the monies available".
"I will be keeping a very close eye on this issue for next year," added Cllr. McDonald.
