'If you're Polish, Come Into The
Parlour'
24.01.08
INISHOWEN'S community
radio station ICRfm will air a new series of radio
documentaries about the region's immigrant
population.
The first of this four-part series will go out this
Friday between 4pm and 5pm on the station's magazine
programme 'Talktime'. |
The series which
includes the experiences of young foreign nationals
attending Scoil Iosagain in Buncrana, has been
created by the Verbal Arts Centre in Derry and is
brought to air through ICRfm and the Sound & Vision
funding scheme. The first episode is called ‘If
you’re Polish, Come Into The Parlour'. Parts one and
two explore the experiences of the Polish community
here, |
|
while parts three and
four look at the lives of Africans and other asylum
seekers in the North West. Verbal Arts Centre
executive director James Kerr said: “Through the
Sound & Vision fund, the Broadcasting Commission of
Ireland (BCI) has afforded us an excellent
opportunity to create informative programmes and to
forge valuable cross border links. BCI and ICRfm
have also provided a platform to exhibit the work
the centre does in radio production to a nationwide
audience. We are looking forward to working with
them again in the future.”
Meanwhile, the Verbal Arts Centre has also produced
a two-part series, ‘This Woman’s Work’, charting the
significant contribution of the manufacturing
industry to the lives of women in the North West. A
one-off feature entitled ‘Magnetic North: The
Emerging Poets’ has also been produced, celebrating
an anthology of poetry by 29 emerging poets from the
North who have made their mark at the start of the
21st Century. ICRfm, based in Carndonagh, will again
act as broadcast partner for these programmes. For
