IDP distributes €13,000 in grants

SOME €13,000 was distributed to 30 community and
voluntary groups in Inishowen last week by the
Inishowen Development Partnership (IDP). A wide
range of groups ranging from health and disability
groups to community development groups benefited
from the scheme. They were presented with their
cheques at an event in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel
last Thursday night.
Groups received the money under the social
development local inclusion programme. The scheme is
administered through Pobal with the Inishowen
Development Partnership (IDP) acting as the local
agent.
“Grants were in the hundreds of euro rather than
thousands,” acknowledged John Jackson a community
development officer with the IDP, “but in
organisations like that every euro and every source
of funding is vital.”
“The overall purpose of the scheme is to assist
community and voluntary groups to combat
disadvantage,” Mr Jackson continued. “We have a
large number of such groups in Inishowen, many of
which have developed and implemented their own
programmes and this money will help them achieve
their aims.”
Funding was provided for projects including
listening ear training, producing a community
cookbook and gardening projects for people with
special needs. As well as the presentation of
grants, the groups were given input on funding and
fundraising. Jane Crudden from Pobal, and Wendy
McCarry of the Bluestack Foundation also gave advice
on the process of seeking funding.
The social development local inclusion programme is
an annual scheme and groups will be invited to apply
for the next round of funding in March 2009. |
