A CENTRE that has
helped many Inishowen people with disabilities to
find work will today celebrate the official opening
of plush new offices.
An Tánaiste Mary Coughlan is scheduled to officially
open the new premises of the Donegal Centre for
Independent Living (DCIL) at Pearse Road,
Letterkenny, at 11am. The organisation's website
www.donegalcil.com and library will also
be officially opened this morning.
The Donegal Centre for Independent Living (DCIL)
manager is Rosaleen Bradley from Inishowen. She
explained that the centre had helped many people
from north Inishowen to south Donegal since it was
formed in 1999.
The group currently has around 80 people in
employment throughout the county in a variety of
jobs such as personal and clerical assistants.
"(The centre) has promoted independence, options,
empowerment and rights for people with physical
and/or sensory disabilities," explained Rosaleen.
"It does this through the philosophy of independent
living primarily based on the principle of
self-direction and choice."
Ms. Bradley said DCIL had rigidly adhered to this
philosophy throughout the years, facilitating many
people with disabilities to live independently
within Donegal society.
She said DCIL would continue to work "relentlessly"
for the removal of social barriers that discriminate
against people with disabilities.
"Since formation DCIL has gone from strength to
strength and this latest development is a further
episode of the success story," added Rosaleen. |
