Inishowen 'Grannymush" needs you
24.10.08
A BURT teenager is
celebrating making it to the finals of an RTE talent
show and she needs your votes.
Leanne McCarron, 14, from Toulette still can't
believe she's made it through to the final fifteen
of 'JAM - The Musical'.
Leanne's talent goes back a long way. She's been
attending speech and drama for the past nine years
and has been involved in musical theatre for three
years. She won four firsts for drama in the Derry
Feis under 16 category as well as two competitions
in the Carndonagh Feis. But she also loves the more
relaxed hip-hop dancing as well as Karate.
Her 'Jam' profile tells us even more: "Leanne wishes
she was taller, hates Weetabix and since she
appeared on the 'Late, Late Toy Show' in 2000, she's
wanted to return to TV! |
|
Her nickname is 'Grannymush'
and Leanne says she's called this because people
think she's crafty. But she describes herself as
"happy, kind and funny".
The competition will broadcast daily on 'The Den'
from October 27 and will culminate in the finale the
following Friday. |
Talented Leanne will go
head-to-head will the fourteen other young
contestants from around the country.
The local schoolgirl credited her music teachers for
encouraging her over the years. "I couldn't have
done it without the help of Sarah and Ann Lynch, Uná
O Somachain, Laura Doherty and Joan Rautenbach. My
mammy and daddy and sister Eva have also been
great," she said.
'JAM - the Musical' will be screeened on Bank
Holiday Monday, October 27 at 11am. Follow Leanne's
progress each weekday at 11am with a repeat at 4pm
on RTÉ Two as she attends the JAM master classes.
Over the week the performers will be mentored by
Ireland's top musical theatre performers - Peter
Corry, Aoife Mulholland and Rebecca Storm.
On Friday, October 31, the three groups will go
head-to-head in the ultimate musical battle in front
of a live audience where the public will get to vote
for who they think performed the best. Go on, give
our own Grannymush a vote. |
