ANY dream will do you say? How about being selected
to star in a production of 'Joseph and the Amazing
Techicolour Dreamcoat' and winning a talent
competition live on national television.
That’s exactly what happened to Burt teenager Leanne
McCarron, who capped off a never-to-be-forgotten
week by winning Den TV’s 'Jam: The Musical' on
Friday.
The Scoil Mhuire student and four other youngsters
from around the country wowed the judges at
Ballyfermot College and the audience at home (who
text-voted in their droves) with their medley of
numbers from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 'Joseph'.
Speaking from Dublin shortly after the win, Leanne’s
mother Ann McCarron thanked all the people that
voted for her daughter.
“The support from our neighbours has been great ever
since Leanne got through. Kathleen Grant put up
posters all over the area to get people to vote for
Leanne. |

Leanne played the part
of an Egyptian wife and her confident performance
helped the group beat out rival performances Grease
and High School Musical.
It was a big feat for Leanne, who at the start of
the week stated for the cameras she would like to do
‘anything but Joseph’ and whose breathing problems
were hindering her singing. Yet by Friday’s final
she strutted the stage like a veteran.
“The judges noticed a big improvement in Leanne’s
performance over the week. John Daly (acting coach)
told her at the start of the week that she had a |
beautiful voice but was
unsure of herself, but by the end of the week her
confidence came on a lot.
The presenter, Paul Walsh, said there was no doubt
in his mind he’s be seeing Leanne again in he
future.”
All during mid-term break classmates and hundreds of
other young people from Inishowen tuned into Jam:
The Musical Den TV to follow Leanne’s ups and downs.
Her name may be up in lights one day, but for now
it’s back to the school-books Leanne. |
