MALIN Head was this
week celebrating the opening of a new medical centre
for the community.
The new facility will be a welcome boost to
patients, medical personnel and administrative staff
who, to date, had to make do with a portacabin.
Senator Cecilia Keaveney welcomed the new building,
the keys of which were handed over by the local
community association, to the HSE.
“The completion of this beautiful facility is of
practical health value for all involved. The
portacabin, used to date, was not the best location
for ill people to have to visit.
"It similarly was not a good environment for the
doctors and nurses and secretaries. All those who
work or visit the health facility now will
experience a vast improvement," said Senator
Keaveney.
She said Malin Head had, in recent times, seen a
number of projects come to fruition including work
on Urblereagh National School which she said, had
improved "the quality of the teaching and learning
environment" for pupils and teachers alike.
"The sod has also been turned for the new changing
rooms at the sports field. Work is ongoing on the
community hall and today we have another resource
complete. All this is in keeping with the Government
policy of rural development," she added.
Trying to keep local infrastructure in the local
area and supporting people to live in rural areas
rather than herding people into towns is a worthy
challenge and I'm delighted to have been able to
work with the various people that were driving these
projects along.
"It is always a tough job to be the volunteer in a
community as often the work gets left to a few.
However today the few and the many will all be proud
of another gain in the facilities and resources that
Malin Head have in this particular piece of
infrastructure." |
