25 million hotel to create 120
jobs at Ballyliffin 13.05.08

A 25 million new hotel
and resort to be opened in Ballyliffin will create
around 120 jobs and pump in 3 million a year in
wages to the local economy it was revealed
yesterday.
Plans for the new hotel and resort were unveiled at
a press conference by businessmen Cecil Doherty,
Owen McLaughlin and Sean Keogh who said the project
will create 100 jobs during its two years of
construction.
And they said that when completed, the new hotel and
resort will provide 120 sustainable jobs locally and
pump 3 million in wages into the Inishowen economy
annually. |

The Celtic tiger was a
neutered pussycat in Inishowen, we can bring it to
the peninsula, albeit belatedly, said Mr Doherty,
who counts the Ballyliffin Lodge and Spa amongst his
business interests.
The plans take your breath away, said local
postmaster and Ballyliffin Golf Club member Des
Kemmy.
The new Sandy Bay Hotel will occupy the site of the
former Pollan Beach Hotel that closed late last
year. The proposal includes 104 bedrooms, 22 family
apartments, bars and restaurants and will use
cutting edge techniques to develop an
environmentally friendly and sustainable building.
The leisure centre at the Ballyliffin Lodge Hotel
will be relocated to the new hotel that will
encompass a five star spa.
Planning permission for the hotel will be sought
later this month and the developers have targeted
November 2008 as the start date for construction.
All things being equal, they aim to be open for
business in April 2010.
However, the developers say the infrastructural
deficit in the village needs to be urgently
addressed in consultation with the local community,
hoteliers and county council.
We do not want unnecessary delays and a long delay
could result in the loss of investor confidence and
withdrawal from the project, Cecil Doherty said.
We need to seize the day. It would be unforgivable
