PEOPLE in Inishowen are
being urged not to sleep with their mobile phones
under their pillows due to fire hazards.
The appeal comes from Buncrana phone dealer Francis
Callaghan who warned that mobiles left under pillows
while switched on could overheat and ignite. |
"Young people, in
particular, have a tendancy to place their phones
under their pillows at night," said the Digitalfone
02 owner.
"But this is a very dangerous practice because once
the phone is left switched on and is placed in a
confined space, the phone has to work very hard to
keep in contact with the transmitter base station.
This means the battery can overheat and even go on
fire."
Mr Callaghan said he was aware of such incidences
happening in the past. |
|
He said he was also
aware of people who charged their phones during the
night and placed them under their pillow .
"This practice is just crazy and people should not
to engage in this practice."
Mr Callaghan made his appeal as part of the seasonal
emphasis on house fire prevention. |
