HUGE potholes in
Moville town centre are set to get even bigger as
Donegal County Council has no immediate plans to fix
them.
Cllr Marian McDonald yesterday tabled a question
about the potholes, to the Roads Section at the
local authority’s monthly meeting in Lifford. But
she was told the problem won't be up for discussion
until 2009!

of the road from Moville Square to Ballynally Lane. |
She said drivers were
being forced to swerve to avoid damage to their
vehicles while at the same time running the risk of
hitting other cars or pedestrians.
Donegal County Council said it had deferred
resurfacing this stretch of the R241 road in recent
years pending the commencement of works on the
Moville-Greencastle Sewage Scheme. The local
authority said the sewage works would result in a
"significant adverse impact" |

on the road as sections would have
to be dug up to facilitate new pipes.
The Roads Section has now told Cllr McDonald that
"consideration will be given" to fixing the potholes
in 2009, following a discussion with the Council
members and confirmation of the level of grants
available to carry out the job.
"This just isn't good enough," said Cllr McDonald
yesterday. "We'll all have fallen into these holes
before they’re filled. It's coming up to Christmas
and this road will only get busier and the icy
weather in the last couple of days will make these
holes even worse." She said she would seek urgent
talks with Council engineers and the overseer for
the area in a bid to have remedial works undertaken
in the meantime. |
