GARDAI are making their
presence felt outside pubs and clubs in Inishowen
late at night. Supt. Jimmy Coen said there was a
slight increase in the number of public order
offences in the peninsula in the last twelve months.
"This is largely due to operational strategies and
enforcement by the Gardai on the street outside pubs
and nightclubs in accordance with divisional policy
for the Donegal Garda Division," said the local
superintendent.
He said there was also a slight increase in the
number of criminal damage detections. In the last
twelve months, Gardai dealt with 111 assaults in
Inishowen compared with 112 assaults the previous
year.
Meanwhile, the peninsula's assault profile revealed
a more positive trend with no increase last year in
assaults causing harm or minor assaults.
However, Supt. Coen said an increasing number of
assault cases were being prosecuted through the
higher courts in the county.
"We treat all assaults seriously and particularly
assaults causing harm which are thoroughly
investigated. There’s an ever increasing number of
cases going forward to the Circuit Court because of
the nature of injuries received by victims," he
added. |
