The scene of the crash on Convent Road in Carndonagh. The accident happened the same day a road further south in the county claimed three victims. The Mayor of Ballyshannon, Cllr PJ Branley, his Sinn Féin colleague Dessie McNulty and 17 year old Michael O'Sullivan died in a two-vehicle crash at 10am at Ballymagroarty on the main Ballyshannon to Donegal Town
road.
Gardaí in Buncrana said the crash in Carndonagh occurred when Mr Kelly’s Mitsubishi Evo collided with a wall around 11.45pm.
Mr Kelly had been working as a plasterer with his two brothers in England, travelling there after work dried up due to the construction downturn in Dublin. He was home visiting his family and was due to travel back to England shortly.
Meanwhile, the funeral of Cllr Branley will take place in Ballyshannon this morning while Mr McNulty and Mr O'Sullivan will be laid to rest on Thursday in Ballintra and Ballyshannon, Co Donegal, respectively.
