Double boost for Inishowen Academy

McLaughlin in Umbro Cup Squad

THERE was superb news for the Inishowen Youth
and Schoolboys' Academy during last week when the
FAI Under15 development squad to compete in the
Umbro Galway Cup in August was announced and it
included two players from the academy.
Moville Celtic’s Conor McLaughlin and Carndonagh’s
Ryan McLaughlin have both made the squad and with it
another opportunity to impress the national team
managers.
Both players were involved in the Regional Centre in
Letterkenny last season as well as the league centre
in Maginn and through hard work have made great
strides over the past season. |
Speaking to the
Inishowen Independent Conor McLaughlin’s manager at
Moville Celtic, John L Coyle said the 15 year old’s
call up was more than deserved.
“I’ve coached Conor from U12 level up and he’s
really developing into a fine player. He’s played in
midfield for Moville U16s and Inishowen and last
season made a couple of appearances for Moville
Celtic Reserves as a forward and scored a couple of
goals.
“His biggest attribute is his attitude to the game,

and after games
serious. He’s being talked up as one of the best
young players in Inishowen, but there’s no sign of
the praise going to his head. He’s a very down to
Earth fella and the club wish him all the best.”
The Chairman of Carndonagh FC, Albert Doherty, said
Ryan McLaughlin’s call up didn’t come as a shock.
“Ryan has excelled at underage level, both with Carn
FC and St Patrick’s Boys National School. He played
in the U16 side that beat Moville in the cup final a
few weeks ago. We’re all hoping he will continue to
progress at the club and wish him all the best for
the Galway Cup.”
The Umbro Galway Cup 2008 is the leading underage
international soccer tournament in Ireland.
Competitors include a mix of emerging talented
players from Ireland as well as youngsters from
English League.
The Umbro Galway Cup has attracted teams from the
UK, the US, Canada, the South East, Eastern Europe,
as well as a strong representation of Irish clubs. |
