A new Scouts group is
expected to be up and running in Buncrana by the
Summer.
The group is being organised by Kevin Ferguson who
is the development support officer for Scouting
Ireland in the North West.
He is due to hold a second meeting shortly with
families who turned up at an exploratory session
before Christmas.
"We had hoped for a bigger turn-out at the first
meeting but the people who were there brought the
message back to their friends so we've decided that
we will start out with two groups in the younger age
category first. We will have Beavers aged from six
years to eight years and Cubs from nine years to
eleven," explained Malin-based Kevin. "From that, we
would expect the group to grow as the children get
older and younger ones join." Inishowen already has
three very active Scout groups in Carndonagh, Muff
and Quigley's Point. A Scout group is made up of
four sections - Beavers, Cubs, Scouts aged 11 to16
years and Venture Scouts aged 16 to 21 years.
Scouting Ireland is a cross-community organisation
with around 40,000 members throughout the country.
