Ugly rig set to leave the Foyle 13.05.08

GREENCASTLE'S harbour coastline is back to its former glory after the removal last week of the 'Deep Diver' platform.
But the rig is now stirring interest in neighbouring Moville after it berthed at the local pier.
Government marine engineer, Paul O'Sullivan yesterday calmed fears that the ugly oil rig-type structure would blot Moville's landscape as the summer season approached.
"It has only stopped temporarily at Moville pier for demobilisation. Some parts are being removed from it and then it will be making its onward journey," said Mr. O'Sullivan.
The Seacore 'Deep Diver' leaving Greencastle recently.
The barge, belonging to British marine construction company Seacore Ltd., was installed 100m offshore at Greencastle Harbour last December to drill holes into the seabed as part of the new breakwater project.
The holes were drilled to take ten massive tubular piles eight metres into the seabed to create berths for ten mussel boats.
Mr. O'Sullivan said the platform was also hired for a couple of days last week by Derry Port to undertake some work on navigation markers in the Foyle.
He said it was now awaiting the arrival of a tug boat to tow it out of the lough and on to its next destination.
