Urris record first win of
season

Urris...2-16 Moville...3-7 by Damian Dowds, Inishowen Independent, at Crampsey Park, Clonmany Sometimes, it’s all about the goals. Sunday was one of those games with five goals – four in the second half – swinging the game one way and then the other. Moville got a goal two minutes before the break to keep in touch after a wind-assisted Urris had raced into a six point lead. Moville hit two goals in three minutes midway through the second half to take a three point lead and just when the looked like they might build on that, they coughed up two soft goals to put Urris back in the driving seat and it was the home team who claimed both league points on offer. Playing with a strong wind that was blowing up the hill, Urris took complete charge in the first half. Stephen Henry may have opened the scoring for Moville in the first minute, but Urris notched up five consecutive points (two Dara Doherty frees and one each from Alan, Ciaran and Simon Friel) to hold a 0-5 to 0-1 lead with a quarter of the game gone. |

Michael Bonner pulled a
point back for Moville through a free, but further
points from Barney Friel, Ciaran Friel and Donal Kelly
had Urris six points clear. PJ Barr and Alan Friel
exchanged points before Moville struck for the goal that
would keep them in touch at half-time. Full forward Michael Mulhall won a high ball into the square but Jonathan Noone parried his shot only for Stephen Henry to stab it home at the far post. Emmet McLaughlin made a fine save at the other end before Michael Bonner and Urris substitute Mickey Harkin exchanged points to give Urris a 0-10 to 1-4 half-time lead. Moville were a different side with the wind on their backs. The switch of Eunan Hegarty from corner forward to half forward was paying dividends too. Ciaran Friel and PJ Barr exchanged points within the first three minutes of the second half. Barr punted a long distance free in the tenth minute that dropped just below the Urris crossbar. Keeper Noone palmed it away, but it fell to Stephen Henry and the 18 year-old netted his second goal of the day to bring Moville level. It got better for Moville just three minutes later. Michael Bonner fed Eunan Hegarty and the defender turned forward cracked an unstoppable shot into the top right corner to put his side 3-5 to 0-11 ahead. |
Dara Doherty steadied the
Urris ship with a 20m free, but Eunan Hegarty
re-established Moville’s three point lead with a point
from play in the 47th minute. But just as Moville threatened to go on and build on their winning platform, Urris struck for two goals of their own. Substitute Brian Doherty finished to the net in the 50th minute and 60 seconds later, a mistake from Emmet McLaughlin allowed Mickey Harkin in for a goal. It was unfortunate for the Moville keeper who had made several good saves over the preceding 50 minutes. Having got the boost of the two goals in a minute, Urris tacked on four more points (two from Mickey Harkin and one each from Alan Friel and Barney Friel) with Michael Bonner adding one for the visitors. Moville’s new management team of Sean O’Hare, Seamus Hegarty, Conor O’Donnell and Sean McBride will be disappointed with the result but could not fault their young, inexperienced side for effort. They face the daunting trip to Na Rossa next week while Urris make the long trip to Ballintra to play Naomh Bríd.
