Termon...1-16 Malin...1-9 Report: Inishowen Independent TOMMY RYAN’S Termon side booked their place in the quarter final following this hard fought win over Malin in Glenswilly on Saturday night. These sides played out a closely fought 0-12 to 1-9 draw in Malin last month and they went into the weekend game knowing that a win would be enough to secure a place in the last eight. The home side, who went into the game without the services of Donegal player Paddy McDaid, started brightly with early scores from Ollie Doherty (2) and Daireann Gibson (3) while Declan McGonagle replied with two points in quick succession for the visitors. Termon got the game’s opening goal midway through the first half when Pauric Hilferty was on hand to blast home beyond Declan Lafferty in the Malin goal following some good approach play from Ollie Doherty. |

The home side started brightly in the second half with Christy Conaghan firing over a fine score from play before the visitors were awarded a penalty by match referee Paddy McBride on 40 minutes. Michael Byrne coolly slotted home from the spot and with Damien Ward and Byrne adding points the sides were level midway through the half. It looked as though Malin could build on that, but it was Termon who responded strongest. Alcorn, Kevin ‘Wappa’ McMenamin and Doherty. At the other end of the field the visitors added a late point but it was to matter little as Termon march on in this year’s championship. Going into the weekend's game Ryan was hoping that the previous week’s win over Killybegs would act as a springboard for success. Malin’s good run of form in recent weeks wasn’t enough to overcome the Termon challenge on this occasion, and manager Pat McLaughlin has a big task on his hands to ensure his side’s survival in Division 1B of the league.
