THE community of St.
Johnston has been stunned by the tragic death of a
local teenager whose body was recovered from the
River Foyle on Bank Holiday Monday.
Fourteen year old Brian McDaid was fishing in the
sunshine with friends on an exposed mud flat on the
river near his home village.
It is understood he was swept into the water when
the tide turned shortly before 6pm. His friends
raised the alarm and a Sligo-based helicopter was
dispatched to the scene by Malin Head Coast Guard.
Greencastle Coast Guard and a PSNI helicopter also
took part in the operation.
The boy's body was recovered from the water by local
people assisting in the search shortly after 9pm. He
was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital for a post
mortem but Gardaí at Carrigans have said they are
treating the death as a tragic accident.
