CANCER campaign group
Co-operating for Cancer Care NorthWest, CCC(NW) will
be among hundreds of people marching to the Dáil
this Saturday to demand a better health service for
patients.
The rally entitled 'A Decent Public Health Service'
is being organised by trade unions and the Patients
Together organisation. CCC(NW) chairperson Jim
O’Donnell appealed to the people of Donegal to
attend the rally.
"The people have power - we need to exercise it. It
is time for the public, health workers and patients’
groups to get together to demand a civilised public
health service based on equality of access according
to need," he said.
Culdaff-based CCC(NW) spokesperson Noelle Duddy
added:
“We cannot afford to stay silent and remain sitting
on the fence regarding the future of our Public
Health Services. Sitting on the fence ensures that
the status quo is preserved.
"A culture of silence must not be allowed to
develop.
Ms. Duddy paid tribute to cancer patient Susie Long,
who died last year.
"Susie did not sit on the fence and she did not stay
silent. We owe it to all who have suffered and to
one another that every public health facility,
regardless of its size and function be accessible
centres of excellence that reflect the health needs
of the entire community it is there to serve. We
should expect no less," she said.
The rally is being organised by the Dublin Council
of Trade Unions, The ICTU Youth Committee, and
Patients Together. People are asked to assemble at
2.30pm at the Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square.
The march to the Dáil will commence at 3pm. For more
