A total of 1,608
people signed on for dole payments in Buncrana last
month - up 30 on the same month last year.
The figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO)
yesterday show a total of 8,488 people signing on
the Live Register in the county last month. This
represented a fall of ten on April last year.
The CSO statistics show rises in the numbers signing
on, in five of the county's eight social welfare
offices, with falls in the other three.
The biggest drop was in Killybegs with 838 last
month - down 145. This is likely a reflection of the
seasonal fishing industry.
There was a fall of 68 in Dungloe where the figure
now stands at 1,201 and a drop of 66 in Letterkenny
where a total of 2,266 signed on last month.
The biggest rise was in Donegal Town, with 165 more
people signing on compared to April 2006 - bringing
the number to 587.
Meanwhile, there were 516 signing on in Ballyshannon
- up 38, and 732 signing on in Ballybofey - up 27.
There were nine more people on the Live Register in
Dunfanaghy, where the number last month was 740.
