CANCER patients and
their families in Inishowen will soon have access to
a new information book by campaigners Donegal Action
for Cancer Care (DACC).
DACC have compiled 'You Are Not Alone' to help all
local cancer sufferers and their loved ones with a
wide range of information, support and
encouragement.
Donegal Person of the Year, Margo, will officially
launch the book in the Mount Errigal Hotel,
Letterkenny, on Monday, September 24th at 8pm.
A spokesperson said 'You Are Not Alone' was written
because "cancer affects most families in some way".
“Remember, one-in-three people in Donegal will be
diagnosed with cancer while one-in-four will die
from it," added the spokesperson.
Meanwhile, Sinn Féin in the county last night
described the decision to review breast cancer scans
carried out at Portlaoise Hospital since November
2003 as "an indictment of the failure of successive
Governments to provide comprehensive cancer care
throughout the State".
The party's Donegal North East spokesperson, Cllr.
Padraig MacLochlainn said the review of all
mammograms and breast ultrasounds had implications
for the entire country.
He said the State's "failure" of patients in Donegal
included the long delay in the roll-out of
BreastCheck and the failure to provide State-wide
cervical cancer screening.
"The overall failure of the Government in the area
of cancer services in Donegal led to 15,000 people
marching on the streets in protest in recent times,"
added Cllr. MacLochlainn. |
