"Thanks to the people
of Donegal and the courage of cancer patients and
their families, this issue has come to the top of
the agenda. For too many years, Donegal patients
endured second-class treatment."
He said the outgoing Government continuously assured
the people they were working to deliver a satellite
radiotherapy unit for the North West.
"Indeed the cross border health implementation body,
Cooperation And Working Together (CAWT) has been
tasked with facilitating this process by health
authorities on both sides of the border. My party
and I welcome this and we have committed ourselves
to rapidly progressing this to a reality as members
of the Government in the North as recently pointed
out by our Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuiness."
The Buncrana-based town and county councillor said
opposition to the privatisation of healthcare was
growing stronger.
"The opposition to the privatisation of public
health services is growing stronger by the day as
recently evidenced by the report by The Adelaide
Hospital Society and Jesuit Centre of Faith. "After
all the years of waiting in Donegal, we are not
about to surrender cancer care services such as
radiation treatment to the for profit, private
sector when we are so close to finally delivering
the best practice, best outcome service they
deserve." |
