Help with childcare costs next
year
26.07.07
INISHOWEN parents on
welfare payments will qualify for funding to help pay for
the cost of childcare from next year.
More than €150 million has been allocated to a new
Community Childcare Subvention Scheme which will see
not-for-profit childcare facilities receive
additional funding to provide quality childcare at
reduced rates to low income parents. |
|
It will benefit mums
and dads in receipt of social welfare payments or
who are engaged in education, training, or certain
work experience programmes.
Donegal North East T.D., Deputy Niall Blaney said it
was vital everyone had access to quality childcare,
regardless of their financial situation.
“The scheme will operate during 2008-2011 and will
subvent community not-for-profit childcare services. |
“The details of the
scheme are being made available immediately to
enable applications to be processed and approved in
time for its commencement on January 1, 2008," he
said.
Subventions for full-day care places will range from
€80 to €30 (€110 to €60 for a child under one year)
per week with pro rata subventions for shorter day
care services.
Deputy Blaney added: “This will be of great
assistance to many parents in Donegal.
“This is in addition to the Government’s continued
commitment to increase the rate of Child Benefit
which has risen from £30 a month in 1997 to €160 a
month this year." |
