AN 18-year-old man was
arrested yesterday in connection with the knifepoint
rape of an American student in Derry's Bogside.
The victim, who is in her late teens, was threatened
when she left the Bogside Inn on Saturday night. She
was forced into a nearby car park where the rape
took place.
The teen, who has since returned to the States, was
left with minor injuries and was badly traumatised
by her ordeal.
A PSNI spokesperson said the arrested teenager was
"assisting officers with their inquiries".
Meanwhile, more than 150 people attended a vigil for
the victim yesterday evening. People left candles at
the Free Derry Corner memorial to express their
outrage and to send a message of sympathy to the
traumatised young woman, who was a student in
Dublin. |
