Donegal lifted their
first ever National Football League title at Croke
Park yesterday in a nail-biting three-point win over
Mayo.
Nearly 30,000 spectators watched as the Ulster and
Connacht sides battled it out in a tit-for-tat
tussle that left most nerves frayed. |

Donegal manager Brian
McIver's line-up included Brendan Devenney and Paddy
McConigley after both passed late fitness tests.
Donegal's Man-of-the-match Brian Roper settled
quickly scoring two early points to help Donegal
into a four point lead.
But Mayo's challenge continued with two quick scores
bringing the lead down to only two points at
half-time. Mayo came out strongly after the break
and gradually fought back to level the score. With
the intensity of the game, it was to Donegal's |
credit that they
prevailed during the seemingly endless eight minutes
added on for injuries.
The final score was 0-13 to 0-10. |
