Encore Music School hits right
note
06.07.07
THE first ever Encore
Music Summer School brought world-class musicians to
Inishowen this week to tutor many of the region's local
musicians.
People ranging in age from nine to 60 attended
workshops and one-to-one lessons in cello, guitar,
traditional Irish flute, classical voice, sean-nós
singing, piano, violin and viola throughout the week
at St Mura’s School in Tooban, Fahan. |
|
A key focus of the
summer school was to give students the opportunity
to play together in ensembles, chamber music and
traditional seisiúins.
Encore artistic director, Jane Hughes said the
international tutors were impressed by the high
musical standard of the participants. |
She said a unique
feature of the Encore programme was the introduction
of the Alexander Technique to musicians.
As tutor Aingeala de Burca explained: “The Alexander
Technique is a powerful tool for change, helping you
to find more ease and effectiveness in mental and
physical performance. “The resulting increased
co-ordination and comfort, enhances performance in
music, dance and sport as well as other everyday
activities." |
One of the
participating musicians Phoebe Carruthers, 14,
added: “It completely changed my posture and it
feels more comfortable. It makes me feel taller and
better balanced.”
Ms. Hughes said the free daily lunchtime concerts
given by the tutors this week at The Fowler Hall,
Tooban, were very well attended.
She, herself, will give a lunchtime talk today
entitled “Choosing the right |

instrument for my
Child” while the festival concludes tomorrow,
Saturday, 7th July, at the Fowler Hall, Tooban, with
a student concert at 1pm. All welcome. The Encore
