AN INISHOWEN business
has been reported to Donegal County Council and the
Gardai for allegedly fly-dumping earlier this year.
Cllr. Marian McDonald revealed that the company's
details were found in rubbish dumped in a skip hired
by a private homeowner in the east Inishowen area in
July.
"This matter was reported to me and Donegal County
Council was informed and I also understand that the
person who hired the skip also reported the matter
to Gardai," said Cllr. McDonald.
Cllr. McDonald revealed the problem while
highlighting the fact that Inishowen has been
without a litter warden since start of the year.
She said illegal fly-dumping would only get worse
without someone to police the problem and follow
complaints through to prosecution.
"We had a complaint from someone who ordered a skip.
The skip only came the night before and in the
morning, there was someone else's rubbish in it.
"When the person went through the rubbish they came
on names of a business.
"I must stress that this was once incident and most
business people wouldn't dream of fly-dumping but
without a litter warden, it can only get worse.
"When people complain about bags of rubbish being
found here and there, they phone the Council office
are told that someone will be out. But that's no
good because we need someone policing the litter
problem in Inishowen as soon as possible," added
Cllr. McDonald.
She said she was not aware, at this point, whether
or not the business whose details were found in the
skip, would be prosecuted. |
